Is Black, Is White

Is black, is white.
The word white come from the Indo-European root “bhel” that means shine, to burn. The clarity of the white color comes from the capacity to reflect all the luminous radiations. The black colour is the opposite. The white colour is related with happiness, peace, and innocence.

At the end of the XIX century the women that will get married used this colour in her dresses. Nevertheless on the east part of the world the white colour get another meaning: the colour of death and duel. During many years in the court of the kings of France the mourning was represented with white clothes. Time passed by and the white clothes used in duels were replaced by black clothes. Even though we do not know with exactitude, the black colour has a connotation with death. Mourning in white is reserved in some cultures for the kings and gods, guard hope and renaissance, while the black colour represent the loss hope the way without return.
It is interesting how a simple colour can represent a totally different meaning. As we see black and white represent both happiness and sadness depending in the culture. Here in Mexico death is represented black while, while life, hope and happiness is represented with white. It is impresive how it can be different depending by the culture. For example we can see something normal in our culture, and in another culture it has a different meaning. I can give another example. in our culture it is normaly to eat fish from a cow, but in India, another culture it is not accepted to eat meat from a cow. It is quite intresting the meaning of a thing for every culture.
