LABORAL DISCRIMINATION

WORK IS A RIGHT FOR EVERYONE NO MATTER HOW YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU HAVE!!!
Since December my borther went and take some exams to make an application for a job opportunity. Weeks later some on of the office called him and told him that if he passed the exam que will have to go to an interview at Monterrey, so he started gathering information of the thing the people of Monterrey will asked him. The thing is that almost 9 of 10 people fail de exam, and almost 9.5 of 10 did not what to answer in the interview. A week passed it was almost February and my brother received a call in which they told him that he have passed the exam an that in a week he will have an appointment in Monterrey for the interview. Almost a week ago he received the call in which they told him that he was accepted that the only thing that was missing was a medical checkup in CEMEX Hermosillo. So in Thursday morning he went there with all the tests and analyses they asked him. The Laboral Doctor that attend him just open his x-rays of his column and told him sorry we can not give you work because in the future yo will have a discapacity because of your column. My borther really sad arrived home almost crying telling that they did not accept him that he will never find a job because of what they told them. My mom histerically started trying, and the first thing she told him was get inside the car we are going to the hospital. It was 4 p.m and until 9 p.m we were still without knowing what my bother have. Until 9 30 he came out and we have to call a doctor with emergency. The doctor told us that he had a perfect column that the image the take him was not definitive to prove he was wrong, so imagine how many people suffer from the same discrimination. Imagine people who like my brother they told them the same, but they do not have the way to get another opinion of a doctor because they do not have money. And know imagine people with cancer, aids, people that can not walk! do not discriminate them they can do the same that us because we are equal in every aspect!

Apartheid: More Than Just Separating

Apartheid is a system of racial segregation enforced by the National Party government in South Africa. It lasted from 1948 to 1994. The term apartheid means “separation” and that’s what it basically was. Apartheid separated social classes in such way that the white race was socially superior to the others, in this case the black people. It distributed land so that black would be in a different area than white people.

I had heard about apartheid before but never thought it had lasted so many years. I think this idea of believing certain race is better than another is really archaic. I thought South Africa had ended with this at the same time as the United States. Marthin Luther King was really important to this country. If he hadn’t step up who knows how long it had take for the United States to be respectful with all races.

In the movie Invictus, we were able of looking at the side effects of apartheid. It must’ve been very hard for the population to overcome just a strict policy. I think policies like this one make the population tolerate and agree with discriminations. Black people were used to the attacks of white people, they felt inferior. Also black people accumulated a lot of rage throughout the many years of abuses. White people were used to be above the rest and they actually thought they were better. I think using Rugby was a very intelligent way of overcoming apartheid. In the movie, President Mandela used this sport to unify the country that had always been separated. He used a sport as a political issue, as Maestro John mentioned in class.

We should all respect the different races, because we are all human after all. Discrimination between races has always been an issue. We can think of examples like Hitler with the Jews, and the discrimination toward ethnical groups. Respect is the key to end discrimination. We should treat other people like we would like to be treated, no matter what their color, language, sex, point of view or religion is.

I am glad neither one of us had to live in such an unfair society. We are definitely moved forward from where we were 30 years ago.

UNIDOS =)

I am extremely excited and happy with the social service that was assigned to me this semester! It is really cool. Even though I have just attended UNIDOS two times, I feel different about myself. Hanging out with this people who are different to us make me feel lucky about myself. The UNIDOS kids are very nice to us. This kind of activities helps us also to see that regardless of the disabilities, we can all be the same in many ways. We have the same interests and dislikes. We can learn to have fun together without discriminating. We need to learn to love our neighbors!
It is very comfortable to do something for someone and as gratitude you receive a big smile full of happiness and love. What this UNIDOS association does is very noble and kind. To give affection to this people has no name. I really enjoy being with this kids. They make me laugh a lot! I hope that more people could have the opportunity to coexist with disabled people, so that they can appreciate life from another perspective.
WE ARE ALL THE SAME JUST FOR BEING HUMAN!

Inequality and discrimination

In current times inequality is more noticeable than ever. The difference between classes is bigger, the middle class is the smallest group, and as always the social class or category means a lot to people. Inequality to me means the unfair difference of opportunities that the richest people get compared to the ones that the poorest get. Seeing it this way we can understand that inequality means that there is also a part called discrimination that gets involved.

Discrimination means the unfair treatment of a group of people according to specific characteristics, such as category, that includes prejudice.I think we all understand why this is wrong, but sometimes we don't even notice we are judging someone.

As I already said inequality leads to discrimination, but it happens the other way around too. When a person is looking for a job looks affect too. The presentation of the person is also important, the people who are considering hiring make a judgement, if they don't like it they discriminate this person. This happens all the time but we don't really think it's wrong because someone with a job like, for example, a salesman, has to have a good presentation. Therefore, this person won't get this really good job, he would find it harder to find another and he probably won't , this means he would be earning no money: Inequality.

So inequality leads to discrimination, I am sure this is wrong; but when it's the other way around it is unfair for some people, but it is the most convenient for the others.

Obviously this problem does not end here, this also has to do with the lack of education, job distribution, overpopulation, poverty and so on. This is a big problem involving many others that has to get deeper into to fully understand and know what to do about it and how.

We are all the SAME

One of my best friend died on Thursday because of a car accident, and because of this event, today, her brother Marcos, a boy 7 years old, has lost his right leg and his mom. I started to think about this child, his life would completely change i all manners. However, relating what happened to Marcos with discrimination, I've found that Marcos IS GOING TO BE DISCRIMINATED FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE! You might be questioning why? Well, this is an easy question: Marcos would probably be discriminated because most of the people would consider him as a different person, who is not able to accomplish all kind of activities.

There are many other types of situations in which people are being discriminated. However, have you questioned yourself how would you feel if you were the one in "his shoes".

The Oxford Dictionary defines discrimination as the treatment taken toward or against a person of a certain group that is taken in consideration based on class or category.

In my opinion, there are lots of forms of discrimination (color, sex, physical appearance, etc.), but they all involve a form of exclussion, rejection, or a different treat.

One of the most common discriminations is the socioeconomic status. People who are from lower classes do not have the same opportunities of people of a higher class. However, thinking in the root of this problem, all recedes in that: A poor couple would not be able to give such a good education to their children; thus, it is very probable that some of the children would have to work to help their parents economically. As a consequence, those children would not be able to succeed in society because they did not receive the bases to create a "good" future. This is why the children of that couple would probably be poor in their future, and this situation continues through generations: Poor families stay poor, while rich families are becoming richer. Those childrend did not chose to be poor, and one of the reasons why they stay poor is because they are discriminated in most of the places because of being poor.

Another example of discrimination is disabled people. Most of the people think that a person in a wheel chair is not able to play bowling, or that he must stay inside his house to prevent accidents, However, they also did not chose to be disabled, so they deserve the same rights as all the people. I went on Friday with UNIDOS (a coorporation in which people with a disability get together and other people go to have fun with them) and there I realized that they are also happu, and that with the help of others, they are able to do any activity (even play bowling).

In conclusion, I invite all people to appreciate their abilities, their health, and their life because they do not know when might the plan change. Also, treat EVERYONE the same, give EVERYONE the same opportunities, hang-out with EVERYONE. Not only because a person is blind it means that he is not able to swim. Not only because a person is black color, he is not capable to be in an important company. WE ARE ALL THE SAME!!

DO ONTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE THEM DO ONTO YOU.
