Obesity in Mexico

In the last decade the radical changes in the eating habits in Mexico is causing health problems to Mexicans. Mexico is now one of the fattest nations on the planet.
Studies show that 68% of adults in Mexico are overweight and that 29% are obese; just behind United States where 74% are overweight and 39% are obese.
Only two Pacific nations, Samoa and Tonga, have heavier populations.
There is also concern in Mexico’s rising weight children. Mexico’s Government announced this month that surprisingly 35% of school pupils are over their recommended bodyweight.
In an antiobesity campaign the government is starting to support events of sporting events and healthy-eating propaganda directed to young people.
One of the events planned is a Thriller dance with 11,000 dancers where people are suppose to join in order to start dancing and burn calories. The event is scheduled for August 29 in Mexico City’s central plaza
The changing dietary habits in Mexico may have result from an extremely globalized economy. Since 1994, when North American countries signed the Free Trade treaty, the imports of processed food and drinks have increased.
Now at days Mexico consumes more Coca Cola products per capita than anywhere else in the WORLD, a total of 635 eight-ounce bottles per person each year. This amount represents a threefold increase compared to 1988.

Damage to Mexico

The problem of the insecurity in Mexico is a matter that has me very worried, insecurity has become our “pan de cada dia”. We read, hear and see by all the possible media scaring news about the growing of insecurity in our country.
It is so much the fear to be kidnap or victim of the insecurity in Mexico that a few months ago there was a big manifestation in Mexico’s City. People got together and dressed in white as a symbol of wanting and demanding peace in and security in Mexico.
The only bad thing about these manifestations is that politicians are using this type of things to win votes, and a peace matter is turning into politicians’ affairs.

Possible Strike, coming soon at UNISON!

A strike for an university, where they teach young people which want to be profesionists, and have a good future, with good bases; it's not good!

Another time, the University of Sonora is in troubles, in terms of conflicts between Sindicates and the directors. These workers are asking for more salary and different wills they have. I don't really know what are they asking for, exactly, but what i know is that, no matter who is the fault of the possible strike; if the strike happens they will be affecting thousands of students, and not only in their academics but also in their lives, and economic situation. Most of people in Universities is there because of their effort, and what they have win (money, etc) to maintain their residency in Hermosillo.

These people that is having conflicts and stopping classes is provoquing that these group of people who really works in order to have a good education, and go on in life, lost money and lost valuable time of school.

May be they are being injustice or may be not, with the workers of UNISON; but before making a strike and stopping academic courses for students, they must think in them; in all the effort, some are making to be there, and not only that, how much they will be affecting their studies...

In my own opinion, I think these strikes instead of helping and improving conditions for the demmandant's, they put them in worst conditions and they also, affect others (in this case, students).

I am thinking possitively by expecting that the STRIKE do not appear, for the well-being of the UNIVERSITY and of the STUDENTS, who are the most important!

These workers beside complaining, should be working! and helping the students... These complains won't let to anything, any one will give them, improvements of salary, with those manners of asking for. Put to work, and let Students study!!!

Smokescreens from the government

As history tells, the government is Mexico has always tried to hide what goes on with the reforms in the country. For example, many people believe that the AH1N1 breakout was used by the government as a smokescreen to hide the current problems they were facing like the legalization of marijuana.

I don't think that the government using smokescreens is an ethical thing because they, in a way, "fool" us by not letting us see what is really happening.

I want to say that the Mexican government needs to tell people what happens in the country, and not use another things to hide it. This is why we still live in a country like this, because we don't feel secure that the government has the confidence to tell us what is going on. And because of this, we neither have the confidence to trust in the government's movements.

Mexico has to progress like those other countries that do not create a lot of smokescreens to hide their problems. Mexico has to realize that people want the country to be honest even if it is going through hard times. People in Mexico will then realize that the country is actually doing its job and will start feeling that Mexico is progressing.

CRIME “Stop this please, we need help”

What does CRIME means? After starting with this topic; I will like to share what does a crime means. A crime is an offence against a public law. In my words, for me a crime is an action that a person made in order to violate the law and to damage our society. A crime is always sanctioning if the person that commits it was found. We can’t see this topic as one, because in my opinion this joins lots of people in order to get with the criminal.

What are some types of crimes? We can find lots of crimes but the most important are these ones:

1) Serial crime (with a serial nature).

2) Federal crime (federal offense)

3) Organized Crime (transnational grouping manage by the leader)

4) Signal Crime (anti-social behavior)

5) Verbal Offence (limitations on freedom of speech)

8) White-Collar (committed by a well-standard person)

I’m going to be honest; I love crimes, I love the investigations and mystery that all these actions involve. For example there is a program on TV that I always see it (it name: “La Ley y El Orden”). I prefer to do these kinds of things and spend my night watching these movies than hanging out with my friends /depends.

Now, I’d had already see millions of cases of crimes that were very difficult and horrible to solve because they were about suicide or violation, so they were very aggressive. But one recent crime that happened right here in Mexico captured my attention. This crime was the one from the girl Paulette.

The first time I saw it, I thought: “ it’s the mom definitively”; but then when the girl appeared on the bottom of her bed, I started making different hypothesis. One of them is that maybe the mom got scared because it was an accident and she hide the baby, so then she get the baby out again and put it as if someone comes and put her there. But for example how does the police, with all that stuff of cameras, radios and technology couldn’t see who was the person that entered and hide the baby there. Another reason for the one I thought that was her mom is that when she is talking to the media, I don’t know if she was in shock or whatever but she doesn’t express her feelings. She was frozen; she doesn’t even have a tear.

Now, the other one that was suspicious for me or a bid doubt was her father. Maybe he wasn’t in her house, but for example he can get this as a vengeance toward her wife because they were separated. So, he left the girls and the mom says that they slept at 8 o`clock and when at 8 in the morning the “nana” came, she saw that the girl wasn’t there. But the only thing is that how does they can make this!!! Kill a girl of 4 years in order to take vengeance or any other objective that isn’t an excuse to kill a girl neither to kill someone or something.

The Debate – Opinion and Experience

Last week we had a debate in the Congress Room with some of our classmates that were participating in different types of subjects. That day I had lots of things to do, so I decided to take a break in order to watch my friends debating with other teenagers. I remember that when I was talking to them before the event, they were like presenting a nervous crisis. Talking about reality they weren’t like that, but yes they were really stress and with anxiety of how does their opponent will react to their questions and opinions.

The hours passed and they were ready to say their speeches. It was already 11 o’clock and the first one that I saw was Fernando. He was nervous but very sure of what he was going to say in front of the judges and public. I remember that when I was sitting down on the front part of the audience I saw the judges to my left side and a traffic light on my right side. These lights were the ones in charge of telling the participants the time they have in order to finish with their speeches or answers.

Then the second person that I saw was Krista; she was very nervous, but I notice that she had some little pieces of paper in her hands in order to remember some of her words. When she was discussing with her partner he was always like trying to shout at her or make opinions that will make her feel uncomfortable. Krista was telling her opinions and the boy was like only just waiting for the response in order to attack her.

Finally I saw my last friend that was Paulina. She was always very sure of what she was saying. Her partner was also very hard but she defined and explained her point of view in a perfect way. After that they made their conclusions and some of the principals gave diplomas to the participants. They also announced the 3 places that won. The third place was Fernando ( I was very happy that a classmate could win the 3^rd place). Then the second place was a boy of 6^th semester and finally the 1^st place was Marcos from 6th semester also. (He gave very good arguments and a lot of statistics about the topic).

Now talking about my opinions in the debate I will like to focus in only one topic. I love the topic of the technologic urns. I think that it has a lot of positive but also negative aspects. For example some of the positive aspects that I notice were that this new machinery will help to improve our ecological culture that is being fomented during all this years. Also that we are going to have more chances to vote for the handicapped people. And even though Mexico isn’t very advance in technology and all that things we have to open and accept new changes every time we can in order to look for benefits and services to community.

Definitively I will say that I’m in favor with the technological urn. Why? Because I love change and the concept that Mexico will develop and improve even more, it’s an excellent opportunity to jump one step more.

Our Choice by Al Gore

We have been reading a book for our Ethics class named Our Choice: A Plan to solve the climate crisis, written by a man named Al Gore. First, I did not even know who this man was, but later searching in internet I found out that was a man who run for president against George Bush Sr. And later become a well-known politician for being in Bill Clinton’s office.
What Gore try to say to us in this book is principle how to use other resources to stop sending contaminating molecules to the atmosphere that destroy our planet, principally carbon dioxide. The most important thing to me in the book is how Gore tell us about alternative ways to produce enery, without contaminating Earth. Those ways include. Solar energy, how do we use sun and solar panels in order to store and produce energy, as well with wind and the turbines made to produce electricity.
And of course there is the geothermal energy, and the always controversial nuclear power, that became more disliked by people after the incident of Chernobyl. Every page of the book contain at least a graph or image to illustrate us of how it works a turbine or a solar cell, in order to make it easier for the reader.
I think we need more people to make this kind of books, even though there is people who says global warming does not exist, it is important to take no in this kind of actions in order to have a cleaner planet, so we can enjoy it as best we can.

Al Qaeda threatens with attacking South Africa 2010!

Terrorist Group sent a message that they may make a terrorist attack in the Soccer World Cup...

In an interview made to them, they said they may be attacking the world cup, "IF ALA wants to"! That it will be very gratefully that countries that are against the Islam, be harmed. Some soccer delegations mentioned were USA, Germany, England, France and Italy. Specially they said that for example, a game USA vs. England, will be nice to have an explosion that kill many people and produce a real tragedy.

With this declarations from Al Qaeda, if the security of South Africa was supposed to be very strict and powerful, now it will need to be double or triple; in order to safe the athletes and the fans.

I think this declarations and alarms that made Al Qaeda have to worry us, because imagine another terrrorist attack in the world, and in South Africa; it will really be a big tragedy. These messages that we are watching show that this group and people-with all due respect to their religion- are crazy in someway. They are crazy in the way they are extremists. Extremists in the bad things, in thoughts, ideals, etc... They may think that its god told them to kill, but I don´t think any God could ask for it or any religion. These events we had seen in N.Y or Spain, few years ago, are prooves that our world has many problems, and that our world has people that only wants to damage us.

I think this extremists religions or groups that practice them, don't help the society and the world. I don't know what their religion says, but also if it says to kill, it is bad and it should be finish. International Leaders can make something in order to beat these terrorists, but also people should help. How? By don't letting them, to convert into a bad person, without values and that do not want the well being of all. The current lack of values in the world is a really big cause of this terrorists. Most of them are people without values and conscience. Imagine how can a person or a group threate an international event, in where many people comes and enjoys?

I hope it doesn't happen in the World Cup and in any other place, because these events are events that link the world, joins different people without mattering in religions, color of skin, nationalities, etc... These are events that help the well-being of the society and specially, pure and nice events that show that our world still is WELL and with GOOD INTENTIONS and ACTS. World Cup and the Olympic Games are events that join almost all the people of the world, millions of people watch them, so I cannot accept an attack in here! We should not damage any more our population, we should not let that this terrorists or groups of "people" finish with our GOOD things!

We should be very careful and take care! We should try to finish with these bad extremist people, and promote more the good things and good acts...

Feminine Power

It is funny that a lot of my feminine classmates have already written about “feminism.” I really don’t understand why this emphasis on this topic is. I mean, I don’t know why suddenly people resumed the feminism topic. I completely agree with this. I consider myself very feminist, and this since I started hanging out with Michelle JAJAJA!! Women do not necessarily need to be obedient, we must be independent.

While I was doing research for the final project relating to Iran, I read a lot of interesting notes. I read about Iranian discrimination of women. In Iran, women have no right to neither participate in political issues nor express their opinions. Mexican women should feel proud and affortunated of the right and opportunities that we as human beings posses. Even though there is still some discrimination towards women because they are considered the weak sex, this issue is imporoving markedly.

This days, women are taking part in every social and political area. Women are no more repressed in Mexico or in the United States. We can see this strongly reflected in the political area. For example, who was competing with Obama for the American presidency? Hillary Clinton. She was nearly to win the elections, and she was a woman. Imagine what would of happen if a women wins the elections for the precidency in any country? This would be something memorable.

Every one should support the participation of women in every aspect. Women can contribute with new, better, and innovative ideas to improve society and solve problems. It is scientifically proved that women are much more intelligent than men JAJAJA!! So.. why don’t they take into account women’s contributions seriously? Lets make this serious and remark that women and men are equal.

"Semana Diabla"

What a good topic right? "semana diabla" … the best of the bests. We as adolescents LOOOOVE this week of the year! It is a week for us to behave badly. It is a week for having extreme fun with friends. It is a week for… disaster, deaths, accidents, misunderstandings… Everyone here know what am I talking about, don’t you? I know that this week is very funny, but we don’t know when something bad is going to happen to us or to someone near to us. I insist, we as adolescents don’t know how to measure danger. Visiting Kino Bay this week has turned out into a tradition year by year. Even though there have been lots of accidents, the young society continues visiting Kino Bay these days.
Visiting the beach in the “semana diabla” consists of lots of alcohol and drugs. Adolescents usually go to Kino Bay because they go without their parents, so they do whatever they please to do. They drink until they get to feel no pain. They not even get to sleep because they don’t want to lose any minute for drinking. This is the reason why things happen… Drunk and irresponsible adolescents are the culprits of the tragedies that occur during the week.

I’m not saying that every girl and boy who goes to the beach get drunk, but the majority does. I for example, I am going to Kino Bay, but I am going together with my friends, and my entire family. It is the first time in my life that I go to the beach this week. I cried my parents to give me permission to go, and they agreed, but they are going with me. I don’t see any problem with that, they are going to take care of me : )

I know that only YOU teacher read every blog post, but I really hope that some of my classmates get to read this and make conscience.

"Together Untill The End"

Together until the end? YEAH RIGHT… Do you really know what am I talking about? Maybe some of you do know a lot much more than me about this topic, but in the resent days I have noticed some interesting facts about divorces, and I’m not saying that this is my case or my parents’. I have some friends of mine who are children of a divorced couple, and they have had a lot of problems regarding to their parents’ divorce. They are not confident with anyone and they are more reserved. They don’t actually smile nor have fun as they usually did. Now their parents are each one with another partner, and this partner has his/her own children! So imagine... my friends have like 6 brothers and sisters that are not actually biological ones. Could you be able of living like this?
While I was talking to one of my uncles, he told me that Sonora has actually the highest divorce rates all over Mexico, and I don’t know if in the world. Today people is not conscious of what marriage means. MARRIAGE IS FOR EVER! In ancient times, people think two times before getting marriage in order to avoid separating from their partners, but today this is very different. People today think of marriage as a game, they get married once and if things go wrong, they get divorced and in most of the cases marry again. PEOPLE MARRY WITH THE IDEA THAT THE CAN ACTUALLY GET DIVORCED!!
This problem is because we as a society do not know how to deal with problems. We prefer to avoid confronting problems. Divorces DESTROY entire families. Divorces DESTROY entire lives. So why don’t we do something to avoid this? If you are not completely sure of loving with all your heart, well... DON’T MARRY HIM/HER! Avoid that divorce step. Believe me, you will save a loooooot of money because divorces are really expensive, and at the same time you will save yourself a lot of formalities.

High Insecurity Risks

Why do we have to be dealing with insecurity problems in our own country? This is really annoying. For example, last week I went on vacation to Tampico, Tamaulipas, and I faced a severe insecurity problem. Since we arrived to Tampico, the guides were telling us to have extreme precaution when considering going for a ride or to the shopping centers. My family and I decided not to go out of the hotel in the afternoon, and instead stay there to rest. At night, my brother, some friends, and I agreed to go and have some fun to some of the local night clubs near the hotel.
When hanging out with your friends, you never realize or notice that you could be in danger, so we were not aware of that. While we were sitting on a table, having our drinks, we noticed that some guys from the military entered the place. At the beginning everything was calm, but suddenly something happened. We started hearing some gun shots and there was panic among everyone. What is this? Gun shots in a night club? YES! Believe it or not, there were seven gun shots in a night club while I was there. Those seven shots were directed to seven guys who were sitting few tables away from ours.
Do you think this is normal? NO! This is not for rational people. It is unbelievable still for me. I still picture those images in my mind. How can we have the confidence to travel in our own country if this kind of things happens? How can we even have confidence in going out of you own house without expecting someone to pass by and shoot you? This problem should be solved NOW!! The government and the society should do their part in order to improve this huge and alarming problem…

Right now? better tomorrow

We had such a great time to rest and relax from school, vacations, the most glorious reward for a student. But what happens when teacher leave us homework in our sacred vacations? Well the answer, for most of the students, is quite simple; they will leave it for the last minute. I had tried to make this homework since the week started but whatever excuse got to my mind, I used it and now I realize that we are live in a culture which is very difficult to make something with time, because we, as students, leave everything to the very last minute.

I have noticed that Mexicans always leave everything to the very last minute, which is not convenient neither for the one that makes is nor for the one that receives it; because if we leave it for the last minute it is very probable that we will do it as quick as possible, we will be really stressed and we will not do it as it should be (in terms of quality). Therefore the one that receives that work will not be highly satisfied and he/she will think we are mediocre people.

I think that we should eliminate that “tendency” because we as humans should have that capacity of organizing our tasks. Another important reason to eliminate it, is because if we leave everything to the last minute we will be highly stressed and stress is one of the biggest illness in our modern world. Lastly if we are trying to reach a better society we should do everything correct, so it is important to take our time and do it as better as possible.

The overweight Beach!

This holy week I went to Kino bay with my family to have fun, relax from school and forget about stress, but what I found is the fact that almost half people I saw, was kind of overweight and I don’t want to seem that I discriminate them but I realized this and I also have relatives that are overweight and even obese and I love them very much, but I found that Mexico is having a really strong problem with this issue. I searched and found in Internet that Mexico is the 2^nd obese country worldwide after the United States.

I started thinking about this issue and I realized several things like: first of all the influences of the United States they invented the fast food and Mexico took that habit and obviously Mexicans accept it and we eat all those fast foods, which are really dangerous to our body. Then we have the junk food, and because they are cheaper some people buy them and prefer to eat them because they have no money.

But besides all these factors; what I think has the fault is our culture and our parents. Why? Because they teach us how to eat, what should we eat, the quantities and all that stuff, which is part of our culture that is passed from parents to sons. I think they should teach us to have good habits with food and maybe just once a month we could have a brake and eat whatever we want to. They should also teach us that we have to exercise our body and not because we want to have a hot body, but because we need exercise. Exercise is essential to our body because if we have it we should use it for something.

I think that it is important to make several programs or ways to eliminate or reduce the percentage of obese people because we should face this problem with all the tools that we have, we have lots of good technology we just have to apply it in some way, but the point here is to find a solution to this problem, now!

The brain suckers

In my family, we have a ps3, a wii and everyone has a portable game and I love these games; but recently, I have noticed that my relatives spend too much time in these videogames, they are becoming addict to these kind of games, they want to play every single minute they can and it’s kind of funny how these games affect them, because you can see they start to lack of imagination, and whenever they want to joke they bring these weird jokes about their games that nobody understands.

When they are playing these games they loose their minds, they are like zombies trying to reach the next level. Whenever I try to make them go out and have some fun or even just take a walk, see the moon or anything, they just don’t want to go and they want to play even they had played for about hours or even don’t want to sleep because they still want to play more. I think that when they reach this point that’s when our parents have to do something on the matter. The other day I read in QUO magazine that every human has to follow the 8 rule, which consists of 8 hours for working, 8 hours for fun and 8 hours for resting and I think it’s quite true, because we have to balance everything and organize out time.

I think it is important to bring a balance; it is ok to play with them because that’s why they were created, to have fun and don’t be bored, but we have to take care about the time of our lives that we spent in those games, because we also have to get along with our family, nature, and so on. They are not bad if we use them cautiously.

A wasted life!!

This weekend all the people were in vacations, and most of them went to the beach: either san carlos or kino bay. Others, went to the united states, and others visited other cities in mexico. However, I noticed that all the people is crazy these days. They drive with big velocities, they buy things crazily, the drink alcohol extremely, and they even say things they should not. With these, I questioned myself: Are not people aware of what they are doing? Why can't people see the opportunities they have and take the best ones? Are not people able to decide and used their willpower for not to drink until becoming unconscious?

In these blog I will try to explain and try to understand some of the consequences of why teenagers drink, as well as the consequences that they suffer or can suffer.

Why teenagers drink?

These were some of the answers I have heard:

- Because its delicious.

- Because it makes me feel big.

- Because it helps me forget my problems.

- Because it makes me more "machito".

- Because all of my friends do it.

- Because it is a tradition in my brothers, so I don't want to break it.

- Because it is a way in which I can have more "girls or boys" behind me <3. align="justify">

What are the consequences of alcohol?

In the alcoholic's body:

Initially, alcohol generally produces feelings of relaxation and cheerfulness at the very beginning, but further consumption can lead to blurred vision and coordination problems. Cell membranes are highly permeable to alcohol, so once alcohol is in the bloodstream it can diffuse into nearly every biological tissue of the body. After excessive drinking, unconsciousness can occur and extreme levels of consumption can lead to alcohol poisoning, damages in the the liver and the immune, cardiovascular, and skeletal systems, and even to death.

In the alcoholic's society:

First of all, alcohol breaks your relations. It starts with your your true friends, then with your job, and finally with your family. Alcohol increases crime, as well as accidents. I have just read in the newspaper that a car with 3 children and their parents, they all die in a car crash in the highway because of an alcoholized young men (24 year-old) who came with 3 of his friends from enjoying spring break. 9 PEOPLE DIE BECAUSE OF ALCOHOL!! Think about it, 9 lives, more than the half innocent. Alcohol takes alcoholics into violence which affects all of us. It also can take the alcoholic, or in some case a member of the alcoholic's family into suicide.

(There are lots of other consequences that I did not mention)

However, if you are an alcoholic, you can still get out of that situation, and recover yourself. The tratment is usually therapies that some insititutions such as AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and others offer. In extreme cases, there are rehabilitation and medical centers that offer drugs that can help as well as therapies and activities for their better.

Remember, if you are an alcoholic, you can still SAVE your life, you just need help. But, if you are just a drinker, take care of yourself, measure what, how, and when you drink; we only have ONE LIFE, we need to take care of it!

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), 2.6 million young people do not know that a person can die of an overdose of alcohol.

Alcohol poisoning occurs when a person drinks a large quantity of alcohol in a short amount of time.

The amount of alcohol in the bloodstream is called the blood alcohol concentration or BAC. BAC is measured in percentages. For examples, a BAC of 0.10 percent means that a person has 1 part alcohol per 1,000 parts blood in the body. Most experts define a lethal dose of alcohol at about .40 to .50 percent; however, the level can be higher or lower for different individuals.

Impaired driving can occur with very low blood alcohol percentages. For most young people, even one drink can adversely affect driving skills.

For young drivers 15 to 20 years old, alcohol involvement is higher among males than among females. In 1997, 25 percent of the young male drivers involved in fatal crashes had been drinking at the time of the crash, compared with 12 percent of the young females drivers involved in fatal crashes.

Tv reporter being threatened

It is very ugly to watch in the news how a woman reporter for ESPN has been receiving death threats, especially because her only job is to inform people from the field when she is at a game. Erin Andrews is the woman who has been target of death threats according to CNN.com.

It was horrifying for me watching this note, especially because at this day but five years ago, a journalist from El Imparcial, was kidnapped and nothing was known of him again.

Even though both cases are very different, the two cases caught my attention because now with technology and crazy people out there, is harder to be free when you are a public figure in the case of Andrews.

In the case of the Mexican journalist, he used to write notes about organized crime and stuff like that, what makes clear that some people did not agree what he write, so they decided just to shut him off. According to a Mexico City journal, in the past three years Mexico lead every country in murdered journalists.

These are ugly realities we are facing, and we will hardly stop them. When this topic shows up I don't like to talk about it, write it does not make it easier, but is something I just wanted to share.

Obeying others

Since we are born, parents start telling us what we need to do, or at least what we should. Then as we grow up we find that in school is always the same thing… obeying the teacher, director, and it continues with our parents. Also, sometimes we obey the friends or agree with their decisions although we are not so convinced. Why? Aren’t we able to make our own decisions? When do we have to make our decisions if people are always telling us what to do? What happens with our thoughts if we are not able to make them?

I consider that when we are little it is ok that parents tell us what to do, because in that age is when our principles are formed, and if they give us too much freedom we could end up in a bad life. But when we start growing I think that people shouldn’t prohibit so many things, we become conscious about our acts, and because of this we make the better decisions for us.

For example, at school we must accomplish the rules, but we must see them by the positive way. I mean, we must obey them not because it says not do certain things, but because they help us to be in a nicer place. Or in our home, yes, we must obey what parents say because they want the best for us. But when they tell us a ‘’no’’, aren’t we able to now the reasons of their answer? We are not that young to accept something and not questioning why? We want some answers.

With this blog post I’m not saying we must be bad people and do whatever we want, and always ask for whys in a bad mood. But to be more conscious about what people say us to do, and if we do it, we must be sure that that is what we want. We are responsible of our acts, and never forget that we must look for the good things for ourselves and the others. We must be independent in our decisions to be innovator, original and successful.

JOKES: Positive or Negative ??

Do you have a sense of humor? What do you think about giving jokes during class? How do you feel when someone jokes about you? Do you think it is humiliating to joke about someone?

Jokes during classes are very common. However, it depends a lot of the professor who is giving the class for a student to say a joke.

We students are supposed to listen to teachers during their class, but these classes are for around 80 to 90 minutes. Also, we coexist with our teachers almost daily; therefore, this coexistence gives us a lot of confidence between student-teacher. The long durance of classes together with the confidence in the relation student-teacher has takes both into jokes.

Either students or teacher, they both joke during classes. These jokes can have a different meaning: to mock, to exemplify, to turn the class from boring to entertaining, or many other reasons. However, both, students and teachers must consider their level of joking as well as the people with whom they are joking. There are some people (either young or a little bit older) who have no sense of humor; there are others who take those jokes personally onto their situation, and others who take those jokes humiliating.

For example, Maria is falling asleep during class, the teacher notices that and says: Maria, I think you were quite busy with your boyfriend yesterday night. Maria may either laugh and take the comment positively, or she may felt humiliated and offended.

These is why jokes are quite risky, and the people who used them must use them quite carefully.

However, I am not saying not to use jokes in classes. Sometimes they must be quite effective, as well as interesting. In other situations, they must make people to feel offended and humiliated, lowering their autoestime.

I invite students and teachers to use jokes, but jokes that may have no double sense, or jokes that may contribute to the class understanding, or jokes that may increase the confidence between teachers and students.

Use jokes, but use them carefully ;) !
