UK elections 2010

Elections take place every 5 years in the United Kingdom, and 2010 happens to be a year of elections. More than 45 million people from aged 18 or above will get the chance to vote in order to choose a new Member of the Parliament.
The party that gets more MPs than all of the others put together will get to form the new government. But if none of the party’s manages to get enough MPs to win outright there will be a hung Parliament. The leader of the party with the most MPs will become the prime minister but it is also possible that two parties join to work together in a coalition only of they are able to rely on more than half the cotes of the MPs.
This year elections will be different because it will be fought on new constituency boundaries everywhere except Scotland, where new limits came into effect in 2005 elections. The new House of Commons will comprise 650 seats rather than the 646 contested in 2005. A party requires 326 seats to ensure a majority.

Abuse vs. Wanting ??

Have you ever noticed the difference between abusing power and wanting power in the government? This is a very pollemic question that many people wonder.
According to the oxford dictionary, "want" is the action of desiring something and "abuse" is an action considered unjust, corrupt or wrongful practice or custom.

The most important action that the abuse of power takes people to do is an unlawful act, which done in an official capacity, affecting the performance of official duties.

Well, I think that people cannot have everything they want, so they must look for the most affordable alternatives to get it, and one of this alternatives may be corruption. Therefore, I think that the wanting of power and the abuse of power would consequently go together.

When a political leader wants/desires to have all the power, he would probably do actions that are considered illegal to get to it. I would call to these actions abuse because I think they are the same as the actions that an opportunist would do.

However, there could be some few cases in which a person who want the power would not surely practice abuse to get to it. There are some honest people who really want to help the country, so they really want to have the power. The actions that these people would do are for example promising things that are possible to carry out, or make things in order to catch the perspective of the citizens.

On the other hand, I have to accept that most of our politicians have get to power through abuse and corruption, which for me are synonyms. Most of our leaders have get to power by promising us a lowering of taxes, enough water with a low price, no more crimes or corruption, a well education for all, respect of each of the rights established in the constitution, and lots of other promises that they NEVER BECOME TRUE.

Aren't you tired of hearing and hearing and never seeing? Aren't you tired of the strong adiction of some people of wanting an abusing to get to power? Aren't you tired of the big difference of social classes? Aren't you tired of seeing that all the politicians and their relatives can do and have wahtever they want?

I think these is enough. We should open our eyes and call for action. We need to have a change in our government.

A world without SCARCITY

Well, on class, we talked about how would the world would be without scarcity, and at first I thought that it would be great!

Scarcity is the fundamental economic problem of having seemingly unlimited human needs and wants, in a world of limited resources. It states that society has insufficient productive resources to fulfil all human wants and needs. For example, fruits such as strawberries are scarce on occasion because they grow only at certain times of the year. When the supply of strawberries is lower, they are scarce, or not always available. If enough people want strawberries when none are available, then the demand increases. And this demand is high not because the price is low but because the supply is low.
So if it wasn’t scarcity at all it would be perfect then. We wouldn’t worry about food, oil, energy sources, water etc.

But later I thought, human behaviour would change dramatically, we wouldn't worry for the quantities we used, consumed etc. For example, the use of car would increase so much, that pollution will also intensify and global warming might be something sure, unless we changed our habits. Values of things would also decrease, since there are a lot of supplies.

Then, scarcity could bring us a positive consequence, which is an awareness, and conscious that not everything is infinite, and we should care a propose solution for actual problems.

In contrast with other post of classmates, where without scarcity there would be no sense of life, I think that our incentives (living reasons) ARE ONLY GOING TO CHANGE, they would be different, but still there would be.

We would care about people and their wellbeing, we would focus on improving technology, and the development of it and how to use it wisely to take advantage of resources and energy sources as possible, also how to distribute such abundance of resources and the use of these intelligently in such a way that there will be no damage to the environment so everyone can end benefited from them. Education would also be considered fundamental.
