A National Tragedy

Last Saturday, the country of Poland suffered a terrible lost, the plane in which the president of the polish country (Lech Kaczynski) and several top political and military leaders were, crashed in western Russia. This happened because the pilot tried to land in a thick fog, which didn’t let him to see the treetops which caused the accident. Thanks to this tragedy, Poland lose a great portion of the country’s leaders. I don’t understand why all these leaders traveled in the same plane, because there are protocol that indicate that some leaders must not travel together, all this to avoid the loss of all the leaders in case of an accident.

Can you imagine what would happen to a country when the greatest portion of its leaders is dead? Well first of all I think that the priority would be to get a provisional president, while elections are organized, but how is this possible if there are no organizers. I’ve never heard of a similar situation, but in my opinion I think that this could generate internal problems, maybe a war or civil movement to see who is going to get the control vote the country, maybe I’m exaggerating. There is the possibility of a population who becomes influenced of fear, fear for not knowing what’s going to happen to their country. The society must stay together and try not to lose control over the situation.

Evidence of Global Warming: The Poles Are Melting

Recent newa informed that the situation of the north and south poles is getting worse periodically, the glaciers are melting which is caused by the Global warming. The effects of this situation, which some scientists are trying to negate or they still don’t believe in this crisis, are getting worse, for example in the north, Polar bears face an uncertain future or maybe extinction because they will probably be forced to face longer summers which can kill them because of the temperature, but at the same time the heat is causing a thinning of the sea ice on which they rely for hunting seals. The ice is getting thinner and thinner and the polar bears will be forced to swim very long distances looking for shelter, food or even a place where they can walk.

I can’t believe there are still some scientists or ignorant people who think that this situation is just temporal and that the situation will be over soon. This is what really makes me mad, our situation is not really god, it is getting worse and several climatic phenomena are affecting our world in a severe way and still some scientist say that everything will be fine, that there is nothing to worry about. Maybe they will change their mind when the poles melt down and a lot of countries will be flooded. Well the poles are melting and this is a very clear evidence of the Global Warming, a situation that will destroy our world if we don’t change our behavior and begin to help our planet. As I mentioned in my last blog, I don’t understand why the humans begin to act in a right way, only when the consequences of their acts are really severe and solutions are something very hard to find and to achieve.

The Lack of Values Generates Problems

While I was thinking for a topic to make my blog post I was really stressed, because I remembered that I had a lot of home works and assignments for the next day. I tried to find someone to blame, but I realized that all this was my fault, because of my irresponsibility, if I had done all my assignments on the weekend and with anticipation, I wouldn’t be having problems but unfortunately the responsibility is not a very strong value on me. This is a very common situation for us, young people, and I’m sure that I’m not the only one who is suffering this situation.

I don’t understand why humans have to suffer and go through very uncomfortable situations to really understand the importance of being responsible in our actions. The example I mentioned before is not very important or relevant, but I have another example, one that has affected us since 2007, the Economic Crisis. Well you might think that there nothing in common between the irresponsibility of people and the crisis, but we could say that the lack of responsibility in the borrowers is what really caused this situation, these people who asked for a lot of money just to try to get a better life by buying a lot of products didn’t pay their loans on time and all this because of the irresponsible attitude that the people adopted. With this last example we could see the importance of some values, and how a negative behaviour could cause severe problems for ourselves and maybe the whole world. So please be responsible and make your assignments on time that will give you a lot of benefits.

A Very Simple Machine Changed Our Lives

Turbines are engines that extract the energy from a liquid or air flow. Turbines are really important for any society in the world because they are the most common kind of technology used for producing electric energy. To be more exact, turbines are rotator engines which spin thanks to the constant flow o water or any other liquid, or also because of the flow of steam. I think that it is very interesting on how the use of a very simple machine could actually be the basis of actual societies.

These turbines are used in almost every source of energy, for example in the wind energy; wind constantly moves the huge turbines located at the top of windmills, these turbines move or power up a generator located in the windmill which is in charge of transforming the movement into energy or in this case electricity. Another example is the geothermal energy, in which hot water and steam (heated by the earth’s core), come out from the land and moves some turbines located inside geothermal plants, these turbines also power up some generators and produce electricity. Hydroelectric energy, nuclear energy, solar energy and even the burning of fossil fuels depend on the turbines for the production of electricity. My point is we could say that the humankind totally depends on the use of turbines for obtaining electric energy. I didn’t know the real importance of these not very complex artifacts in our society until I read some chapters from the book Our Choice from Al Gore.

Blog Homework: Economic Crisis

The crisis has been a very popular problem since it began; it is a little obvious because it affected a lot of countries around the world. The title of the blog I read is “The Economic Crisis: Who is to blame?”, and by reading this I think that there not a specific culprit, but thousands. I think we should blame the irresponsible conscience or attitude of all the borrowers who didn’t make their payments on time, because of this fact the flow of money became slower. Things like this made the savers to lose their confidence and wanting to retrieve their money and cause and even worst situation for some banks, which at the end collapsed in few days. Also we could blame the banks for giving so many loans without having control over them.

I don’t like the idea of being looking for someone to blame, instead of that we should be trying to look for solutions for this global problem, and we can’t depend on the government because we are not sure if the government would be able to find the solution. There are a lot of countries suffering because of this crisis, and we must help them. I understand that if we find the real culprit, we could prevent any other similar situation like the one we are passing through today. But anyway, it is more important to find solutions instead of looking for someone to blame. I still don’t understand why this happened, I mean, didn’t we learned something from the last great crisis? Well, during times of crises the societies must be together and help each other because union is strength, and maybe then we should be able to solve any problem.

Our Choice by Al Gore

We have been reading a book for our Ethics class named Our Choice: A Plan to solve the climate crisis, written by a man named Al Gore. First, I did not even know who this man was, but later searching in internet I found out that was a man who run for president against George Bush Sr. And later become a well-known politician for being in Bill Clinton’s office.
What Gore try to say to us in this book is principle how to use other resources to stop sending contaminating molecules to the atmosphere that destroy our planet, principally carbon dioxide. The most important thing to me in the book is how Gore tell us about alternative ways to produce enery, without contaminating Earth. Those ways include. Solar energy, how do we use sun and solar panels in order to store and produce energy, as well with wind and the turbines made to produce electricity.
And of course there is the geothermal energy, and the always controversial nuclear power, that became more disliked by people after the incident of Chernobyl. Every page of the book contain at least a graph or image to illustrate us of how it works a turbine or a solar cell, in order to make it easier for the reader.
I think we need more people to make this kind of books, even though there is people who says global warming does not exist, it is important to take no in this kind of actions in order to have a cleaner planet, so we can enjoy it as best we can.

Alternative Power Sources

Wind Power

There are many possible energy alternatives that we can use instead of the constant burning of fossil fuels. A clear example is the wind power, which is the conversion of wind into a useful form of energy. For this kind of conversion, some machinery such as generators to make electricity are required, wind-mills for mechanical power, wind-pumps for pumping water or drainage, or sails to propel ships.

Wind energy is a very good option as an alternative to fossil fuels, as a power source is attractive, this alternative has very good qualities such as it is plentiful, renewable, it can be widely distributed, it is clean, and produces no greenhouse gases. However, not all the countries use this kind of energy because of the visual impact that the windmills cause or sometimes they affect the environment.

It is of great importance to use the possible alternative energies, because the base of our technology now at days is the energy produced by the burning of fossil fuels, and in a determined time they will be over. We must use alternatives like the wind power to have more energy and in a way in which our environment wouldn’t be affected. Some countries such as United States, Germany, Spain, China, UK, Portugal, Italy, etc, are already using this kind of energy.

Comforts in Google

We all know about a very popular enterprise called Google, but what no all the people know about this company is the way in which their employees realize their jobs. Recently I saw a video related to the way in which the employees of a very important and popular company called Google work. These employees work under very comfortable situations. They are able to eat and work in any place inside this huge area which is more like a vacation place, this company is full of trees and other plants, they produces their own vegetables which they sell in the different cafeterias in the company.

The employees transport themselves by using electric cars or bicycles, and some others even walk. They are allowed to take their poets to the job and dress the way they feel more comfortable. I think that these incredible comforts are the factors that influence in the great popularity and success of Google.

When people work in a very human and healthy environment they are able to do a better job and make any task with a more positive attitude. This kind of environments are the ones the companies and also societies need to achieve progress and success, we should follow the example of this great company and begin to be more dedicated and try to work under comfortable situations, but at the same time trying to help the nature, because there is no point on working hard for progress if we don’t have a place where we could live.

Scarcity of Water

We all know about the “strategy” for saving water called TANDEO, I think we are becoming used to this situation and some of us are really annoyed because of the scarcity of water. This situation has become really stressing because we constantly face situations in which there is no water in our house and we are forced get it from other places such as water gallons that we buy in the stores. Last Saturday I woke up at 8:00pm and took a shower about at 1 o’clock, later I realized that the water was totally over, the “Rotoplas” in my house was totally empty. I wasn’t surprised because I’m getting used to the fact that water is scarce in our city, but what really made me angry was to know that the water was cut since two days before. Later I heard that days before there were some announcements telling about this cut of water. Finally after three days and because of my ignorance, as soon as the water returned I instantly began to fill as many containers as I found. On Sunday my dad told me about a man who called at a radio station asking for the address of the Mayor of the city, and protesting because he was sure that the mayor didn’t have this kind of problems in his house. This make me think about the fact that if we feel really bad with this situation, what will happen when the water turns more scarce.

Influence of Technology in Economics

Will technology ever reach a point where the production process becomes so automated that humans will become unemployed? Well that’s a question that we should be trying to answer, because what would happened to the economy and people if humans become useless? Now the roll of technology in the economic factors of production is known as capital. We use technology in many different ways for example in factories or crops, in an uncountable number of machines like computers, vehicles such as tractors or irrigation machines.

Even though our modern technologies might not be able to reason by their own in such a way that they could control or realize any human action or task in a determined time, they will be able to reason by their own and solve many problems. They will be capable of generating more robots and maybe help the difficult task of controlling or helping in the economy of a country. Technology has a very important roll in our actual economy because of the use of computers, but maybe someday robots or artificial intelligence will reach a level in which the economy could be controlled just by machines.

I think we must not worry about the robots taking control over the world because we as their creators should be able to control them, even though they can be of great use for any task related with statistics or any other process related to the economy of country, I think that economics need a little human reasoning and at the same time be related to values so that the economy of country could help all the communities in a country.

A World without Scarcity

A World without Scarcity

An infinite quantity of resources is the dream of every society, the idea of having infinite resources makes us think about all the possible advances the society could have, but by showing this image Im trying to tell you that there are positive and negative sides in a situation like this.There would be enough resources for the survival of poor communities. Many problems such as hunger would be solved; the most important resources such as water and food would be infinite. The constant fighting for territories or resources like oil would be over.

It’s incredible to imagine such a world, without problems, and resources for every single person, there would be enough jobs for the people and hopefully a better distribution of the resources. Maybe this could also end with any kind of crisis; probably there would be no crime because everyone would have enough resources. Other problems such as immigration would be over because there is no necessity in immigrating if there are enough resources in the place where you live.

Even if many global problems could be solved, there is no perfect world, not even with infinite resources. Some problems like overpopulation would become even worse because there no necessity of moving from a place if the resources are enough, so the populations would concentrate in a determined place and as a consequence communities become bigger. The problem that could affect our world in a severe way is the pollution, with a lot of resources there would be more and more wastes causing damage to the environment. By thinking about this I realized that there is no perfect world.

UNIDOS Association

"The Smile that moves the World"

Unidos is a company or an organization that every time more is helping the society and the communnity that present discapacity problems. Unidos is an association that is receiving handicapped people, they can be damage physically or mentally.

The person that help "Unidos" in all this procedure and all this work, are us. All of us have the opportunity as part of our community and society to participate in this type of activities that help them to make new friends, meet new people, talk about different things; but I think that all this movement is going to create a great and powerful satisfaction with our actions.

Like in one week I'm going to Unidos because we have our social service there. I imagine it really good, with lots of children making in society a great impact and progression that helps us to maintain our stability and also to start developing associations with great tendencies. Ex: Teletón

Dependence in the Computers

The computer has become one of the most important tools for the people of this generation. Now at days young people use computers every single day for school, work, and mostly entertainment. We are the first generation who has become dependent on the computers; we have used them almost since we were born. For most of our lives we have used computers, so it is not surprising that our generation has become highly dependent upon them. The computers give us a lot of advantages, but also, there are several disadvantages. An example is the frustration that we usually feel when we can not get access to our computer. Other people spend a lot of hours playing or chatting on their computer, while they could be doing any other healthy activity.

Computers are becoming a great part of education, for example, in our case we as students use the computer for almost every activity from the school, online quizzes, online home works, research, and other activities. In the Universities computers are crucial for success. Computers have also facilitated the communication around the world. A Computer has a lot of advantages, but what about its disadvantages? Well I think that human has become a “slave” of the computer, and by saying this I mean that a person can not be without computers. Maybe the computer gives us much more advantages than disadvantages, but we can’t be sure of which will be the role of the computers in the future, how they would affect our society? We will have to wait to get the answer for that question.

A Bad Nutrition Affects the Behaviour of our Society

While I was looking for another topic for my post I read something quite interesting. But did you know that education, and even criminal behaviour is affected by nutritional issues? I knew that bad nutrition promotes illness, heart diseases, and lots of problems on the health of people, but that question really impressed me. Apparently when people suffer from nutritional imbalance, they also can suffer from psychological imbalances.

A study that took place in a prison in Virginia, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether the prisoner’s behaviour would change if the men were made more nutritious. Their first diet consisted of hamburgers, fried potatoes, white bred, cookies sweet snacks, soft drinks and milk shakes. Their diet was changed to whole wheat bread, potatoes, meat, vegetables, fruit, and fish. Amazingly the prisoners' violent behaviour diminished, and when junk food was reintroduced to their diet their violent behaviour returned.

What these studies proved is that bad nutrition not only affects us physically, but it also affects us emotionally, and mentally. We must remember that our brain is a part of our body, and needs nutrients just as other parts of our bodies do. So when we don't have the right nutrition, our brain won’t function correctly. We have to make an effort and have a good nutrition because maybe the cause of the violence in our society could be our nutrition. In a certain way the problem of Poverty (Hunger) creates at the same time crime, which is another global issue we should deal with. It’s incredible that such a thing as nutrition can influence in the behaviour of a society.

Overpopulation and its Effects in Mexico

It's a fact that the population in Mexico is constantly growing, and this causes many social, economic, and pollution problems. By researching I found that there are three main effects of overpopulation in our country. I would like you to read this post so you can understand that overpopulation is an issue that really affects any society with this problem, and also it is affecting our society.

The first of overpopulation in Mexico is unemployment. First of all, there are not enough sources of jobs or employments in Mexico, so only the most prepared people get a job. This is a great social and economic problem because people who don't have a job are constantly frustrated because they don’t have enough money for supporting their families.

The second effect of overpopulation is the low quality of public services. Natural resources, like water or food, are not enough for so many people, so the poor people of the country suffer from thirst and hunger. Also, the level of education is quite low because there are a lot of children or young people who must study, and the number of teachers or schools in our country is not enough. This situation also happens with health; hospitals are not capable of giving attention to all the people who need it, so there are a lot of diseases.

The third effect is about the exaggerated levels of pollution in Mexico. Because of the constant use cars, a lot of pollution is produced, which causes a high level of air pollution. As a secondary effect, the number of traffic jams has increased. Also, every day people generate a lot of trash, and this pollutes both water and ground. We can see that overpopulation is a problem that not only affects the society, it also affects the environment.

All this effects generate a kind of cycle, for example, overpopulation causes poverty; poverty causes other problems such as crime, hunger, lack of education and more immigration. Another example could be, pollution causes diseases, and these diseases can't be attended because of the insufficient hospitals. We as a society must find a way to organize all the people who lives in our country; we have to stop spending so many resources and stop the pollution. I also think that politicians could make an effort and generate more jobs, so everybody could work and try to satisfy their needs and the ones of their families.

Could It Replace the Fossil Fuels?

The humanity has been dependent on the fossil fuels for several decades, almost every vehicle or machine works thanks to a derivative of them, but what are we going to do when we run out of fossil fuels?. This is a question that many countries are trying to answer. Well I think that a possible answer for this question is the use of Biodiesel.

The Biodiesel is a fuel that is derived from 100% renewable resources; many people in the world believe that Biodiesel is the fuel of the future. Biodiesel does not contain petroleum; it is made through a process called transesterfication, in which glycerine is removed from vegetable oils or fats. Biodiesel is free from substances like sulfur and aromatics which are found in traditional fuels. The use of this fuel is great in many ways, for example, it is biodegradable and non-toxic, and surprisingly it is so safe that it is even safer than the commonly used table salt. In a way it would even benefit our planet because the levels of pollution could decrease in a considerable way.

As I said before, one of the biggest features about biodiesel fuel is that is it environmentally-friendly, which means that it is not as toxic as other fuels. It is made from renewable resources, so it does not cause harmful effects to the environment that will produce positive effects on the future generations. It is also good for the economy of a country, because it comes from the resources which can be produced in any country, and by saying this I mean that a country can become fewer dependent on foreign countries and the money used for buying fossil fuels could be used for other purposes. A lot of countries such as Germany, Canada, The United States, France, Italy, Malaysia and Sweden already use this fuel. This could be a great replacement for the fossil fuels, because it has a lot more advantages than disadvantages, and I really think that we should use this fuel now and try to help the environment in a certain way.

Racism, The Impediment of Progress

I was interested in this issue because I have noticed that our society constantly makes racist jokes by calling each other nigger, Negro, and other insults related to black people or people from other cultures, when we really don’t know how serious this problem is.

First of all racism is defined as the belief that characteristics and abilities can be attributes to people simply on the basis of their race and that some racial groups are superiors to others. We have to understand that Racism is not only about black and white people, it also involves people from any culture in the world. This problem affects the society in such a level that it has been used as weapon by encouraging fear or hatred of others in situations of crisis.

An example of this kind of discrimination occurs in the US, where racism is a well known issue. Several actions such as police brutality against minorities and also the history of slavery in which slave labor by African Americans created a great amount of wealth in the United States and unfairly, this wealth was all taken by white people. We are all living beings, and we must be treated in the same way. The use of values such as respect and tolerance is the key for the end of this inhuman practice. If we want to progress it is important to learn to tolerate the people around us, even though their race, culture or social class. The world must be joined so we can face any other global issue.
