Another Earthquake, now in Chile!

Disaster in Chile + New government entrance...

This morning the world wake up with terrible news, an earthquake in Chile. This was a sism of 8.8 degrees, the 6th worst in the history of humanity. There are aprroximately 122 deaths, and many damages.

It seems that the story of Haiti is repeating, in many senses, it is the same. Luckly, in this eartquake there are less deaths and damaged people, but this doesn't mean it was nothing. It is a terrible disaster and huge damage to the country in all manners.
The different and new thing is that, currently, Chile ellected his new president-who will take possession on MArch 11, I think. So many questions appear... Will Chile Government will be as the Haiti one, not capable to raise up? Will the inminent change of government and powers, led authorities and Chile to raise up and care with this tragedy? In these next days, we will see how both governments, the currrent and the new one, work; and if they are capable of managing this disaster and situation. Also the political and economical life of Chile, will be prooved. If they can work together for the good of the country, then they will be having a good political situation. Plus, they have to look and manage the economical situation of the country.

I hope that the citizens and the governments, join efforts in order to beat this tragedy! I also hope that the politicians really join and see for the good of people, without mattering any political or economic differences.

Lack of Water in Hermosillo

A Big Problem in Hermosillo: Water...

One of the latest classes of the first partial, we talked about the global issues and we listed many of them. One of them, was the lack of natural resources. I want to talk about them because is something that is affecting our city. The only difference is that the resource is water.
As we know we live in a desert region, so water tends to be scarce.

Currently, the government is searching for a solution and I hope that they find the best one, that benefits all its citizens. The point is that this lack of water at Hermosillo is a global Issue, but also involves Economics; because it is related to how the government will distribute the Service.

I chose to write about this, because it is a global issue very common and talked among Hermosillo Citizens, and it is a matter that involves all its people. This is one part of the issue, the political and social effects. But also it involves the Economics' science so it is really interesting to comment this events. We are noticed of what is happening in terms of resources in the city, and in terms, of the politics/governments decisions.
I would like to say that we all have to raise our voice, and propose or ask about the solutions. It is a matter that includes political, economical and social decisions; that later will have consequences in our lives, either good or bad.

Garbage Classification Program in Hermosillo

Garbage Classification Program in Hermosillo, since Today!

Basicly, the article talks about the new way of recolecting garbage in our city. The man in charge of the department, told the reporter that it will be the same truck, but the new thing will be the routes. As an example, he said that in the majority of the city the truck will pass 2 times per week and in some Private Colonies, three.


The first visit of the week, we should give them the organic garbage, and the second; we will give them both (organic and inorganic). In few words, Hermosillo citizens will have to classify garbage in Organic and Inorganic.



I consider this a really good new for us because we are going to be an ecologycal city, in some way. I think it is the beggining of many actions that can and have to be made, about the ecologycal purposes. Also Hermosillo needed these, since before; but no body set the program, until now.
I hope it really works, and more important; that we as citizens be compromised to this program, and classify the garbage as organic, inorganic, etc.
We need to be updated in matters of ecology, and to care about it. As we talk in the classes about issues, actions, and solutions, "Ecology Problems: Garbage's issue" are currently Global Issues that are affecting our Hermosillo, so we have to activate the solutions we'd planned to beat this issue, and have a better place to live. I hope it works! Good Program!

Society Vs. Global Warming

Few days ago I was asking myself about how many generations will live after us. Then my grandmother took some disposable glasses, and I told her that we shouldn’t use them because they affect our environment, while we’re suppose to take care of it (environment) and I also explained her the way they affect it, but she denied to stop using them because she said that she is going to die, soon. I was like surprised because, obviously, I don’t want her to die soon and because of how come that people don’t care about their environment and their future generations.

I also asked myself about how can we like, make a conscience on others, to stop doing things that affect our environment like using disposable glasses or dishes, hair sprays, throwing water, don’t caring about separating trash (organic, plastics, etc.) and all those kinds of actions that deteriorate our planet because It won’t be forever. I have been wonder this for several weeks and trying to find out a way to make my family take more care about what surrounds us.

But I found that, for one is very difficult to make a change, but a group has more probabilities of doing it. Because I find society as many brains together and if you convince one, he will change another and so on until the whole society is changed of mind, just like a chain. If a group does this will be much more easy. That’s why I joined this group called “Greenology” in my school to gather some ideas and imply them in my house (family).

Corruption

On my researchs, I found a map with different levels of corruption, each level had its own color, green was the lowest, and red was the highest. It's sad to see that 6, maybe more countries, are in green. The others are in different levels, but our country, imagine in what level is: red.

I came to realize that the people that claims to serve and protect the people of a community, are the ones that succumb to tentations that go against the laws, leaving our pilitical system in doubt and affecting the very same people that elected them to be in power. Where are the values in this kind of situation? There's a lack of responsability in their charge and their obligations, they should be working and trying to improve the situation of the cmmunity in which they work, that's why they were elected for, but some are just there for the power and the benefits, so they have no problem to accept something that's not approved by the legal system and make it confidential and secret. Of course in our world, there's good and bad people, but unless we know everything about someone, we can't know in what team they play. We have to trust in them. So I think it's unfair, they're not just giving their backs on people just for their own benefits, they betraying the people who wanted them to be there, those who were in their side. We are all humans, we can make mistakes, but if you have that kind of power, at least you could try to do the honorable thing, the one that is better for the people they're supposed to help. So we have to analyze the people who are willing to obtain power, and which are their intentions really.

Privacy vs. Security

Personal Reflection, Class Article.

In class a team read an article about privacy vs. security, and we clearly saw that we could make a debate out of it.

Whenever there have been national emergencies, the rights and civil liberties of the public have been curtailed, and in many instances revoked completely. As technology has grown in leaps and bounds over the last three decades, it has also brought with it new challenges to protecting people's privacy and curbing privacy violations. In general, the public feels an increased sense of intrusion and loss of privacy. The new proposed measures by governments impact privacy and civil liberties.

For instance, The United Kingdom is the most controlled city in the world. They most probably catch criminals quickly, but innocent people are also watch over and followed. But precisely that is what means security; the degree of protection against danger, loss, and criminals. Security must take into account the actions of people attempting to cause destruction.

In my opinion, security is more important than privacy, is preferable to take some time in a register in an airport where they make you an extensive check, instead of living a terrorist attack that might get you into a difficult situation or even death. I think there are more benefits from security than the liberties and privacy ones.

Some of the benefits I am talking about are:

ü Reduces obvious threats and risks.

ü Can prove a deterrent

ü Can increase public safety by making identification of thousands of criminals and other offenders easier

ü Could reveal plans of suspects proactively to provide advance warning

ü Better background checks before entering the country reduces chances of threat

The proposed increases in security measures may be beneficial for the common good if it implemented in an impartial way throughout the community, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic group. Accountability and transparency in law enforcement procedures, especially concerning privacy issues must still be preserved, despite recent attacks. The judicial system must be empowered to deal effectively with any abuses of proposed security measures to protect the constitutional rights and liberties of all citizens. It should also ensure that anyone accused has adequate legal representation and a fair chance to prove their innocence, even under these circumstances. Ensure that the current atmosphere of rich ethnic and cultural diversity of the country living in peace with one another is not compromised. In one approach suggested by Mr. Etzioni, an expert on privacy-related issues, an optimal balance between personal privacy and the community good must be achieved, with both being given due importance.

However, privacy could be limited when it is in the interests of the common good, especially in areas of public safety and public health. The decision-making process could involve asking the following questions:

· Is this a real, tangible problem that we are facing?

· If it is, can we handle it without impacting/violating privacy at all?

· If not, can we handle it by making it as less intrusive as possible?

Hunger and World Poverty

Poverty means the lack of resources to afford basic human needs. Poverty is a global issue that entire world has been facing a long time ago. Poverty itself causes a lot of other things like hunger. According to the United Nations, about 25,000 people die every day of hunger or hunger-related causes!! And unfortunately most of these people are children. And we know that there is a lot of food around the world, but the problem here is poverty. They don’t have the enough resources to pay for food. And like they don’t have the enough money to pay for food they need to take food from the trash or things like that, so they are malnourished. With this they are more propane to have disease and they are weaker and this enables them to work and they can’t have money. As we can see this is like a cycle all is connected.

There are some programs that try to decrease poverty. For example, there are jobs were they are paid with food by making structures, school, etc.For children there is a program that if they go to school they receive food.

I think that this is good way to make decrease poverty, because if children are having education they can work and also they are having food so they can be nourish and with energy to go to school. And adults are having work and food at the same time. It is a good way that in al the world should be practiced.
