Where the state comes from?

The state is a group of institutions to organize a country economically, politically and socially. The most important institution is the government which makes the most important decisions. There are several theories that try to explain where the origin from the organization from the state comes from. In them are included the force theory (desire from a small group), evolutionary theory (comes from the family), divine right theory, and social contract theory (people decided it by a contract).

I think that state was form by divine right theory because since the ancient civilizations they really appreciated the gods. They considered them as the major power, I think that they felt protected or saw them as the invincible people. With this they started the belief of the god choosing the rulers, they classified that person as the leader and he was able to give orders to people that were not chosen by god. With this, I think that then the power was given to members of the same family, making them kings or queen. And as we know, there were people from different social classes.

I think that after they realized that there was a ruler who controlled others they wanted other to be the leaders. So they tried to modify creating other types of governments. They decided to choose their leaders, and they try to gain more power. That is how I think the story of power distribution was created.

Getting married

In Mexico City the government has approved that people from the same gender (man-man or woman-woman) get married. This has become a problem because a lot of people are against it saying that that is not correct, and if they adopt children they will be raised in a not normal family, which will change their values, principles, etc. But in the other side, there are also a lot of people who approves this decision.

Personally, I approve this law. Every person is free in their decisions or acts, and people shouldn’t interfere in their lives, especially if there are their preferences. Not because someone likes other things than the majority of people should be treated different. I am also in favor of they wanting to form a family, I don’t see a problem in adopting children. The child will know the truth and not because their parents (men or women), are of the same gender, the boy or girl will also prefer that. This comes in their genes, and cannot be modified by seeing other people. Also, they will be benefited, they will have two people who care for him or her and will act as their parents.

Why the government should avoid a personal decision? We are all humans, we are all different.

A gift from a star

In the book Our Choice comes a quote from Albert Einstein that got my attention. “I’d put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don’t have to wait until coil and oil run out before we tackle that.” The sun is a star which provides great amounts of heat to our planet Earth and is necessary for the living organisms’ life. With the intelligence of humans, they have noticed that the heat can be transformed to use it as energy, and then electricity. This would reduce the amount of CO2 released to the atmosphere and that could be a way to solve global warming.
With the quote I realized that people have had this idea of using the sun since a very long time ago, but still, a small amount of people use this alternative. Why are we not using it, if it is “free” as a gift?

I think that it is because this source of energy is very expensive: the equipment and installation, but after this is all the energy received from the sun is free. You don’t have to pay for it, and it can be used for a long period of time. So it will be a benefit to the owners. I think that if all the people or at least some countries start implementing this, the price will lower, and more people will be able to obtain it (price-demand). And less pollution will be produced.
Also I think that another way of taking advantage of the sun is that the houses should have the ceilings of window. As in the United States, some of the buildings have plants in the highest floor so they can receive solar energy. With this type of ceiling not only plants can be in there, but also people could use that solar energy instead of light bulbs. Or maybe it can also be stored and used.

We must be responsible for our home. The sun will always be there while we are living, so why don’t we are a little selfish and start using it for our and Earth’s benefit? Let’s start using it!!

Obeying others

Since we are born, parents start telling us what we need to do, or at least what we should. Then as we grow up we find that in school is always the same thing… obeying the teacher, director, and it continues with our parents. Also, sometimes we obey the friends or agree with their decisions although we are not so convinced. Why? Aren’t we able to make our own decisions? When do we have to make our decisions if people are always telling us what to do? What happens with our thoughts if we are not able to make them?

I consider that when we are little it is ok that parents tell us what to do, because in that age is when our principles are formed, and if they give us too much freedom we could end up in a bad life. But when we start growing I think that people shouldn’t prohibit so many things, we become conscious about our acts, and because of this we make the better decisions for us.

For example, at school we must accomplish the rules, but we must see them by the positive way. I mean, we must obey them not because it says not do certain things, but because they help us to be in a nicer place. Or in our home, yes, we must obey what parents say because they want the best for us. But when they tell us a ‘’no’’, aren’t we able to now the reasons of their answer? We are not that young to accept something and not questioning why? We want some answers.

With this blog post I’m not saying we must be bad people and do whatever we want, and always ask for whys in a bad mood. But to be more conscious about what people say us to do, and if we do it, we must be sure that that is what we want. We are responsible of our acts, and never forget that we must look for the good things for ourselves and the others. We must be independent in our decisions to be innovator, original and successful.

Illegal cars

In Mexico, there are several procedures to admit a car from the United States. The car must be from certain year, and accomplish with characteristics to become legal. Last week a coordinator from TEC told us that the authorities didn’t want to legalize the cars, and do something with the people who bring the cars because they were making something illegal. But from the other side, the people who sell them where telling that that was their job, and source of money, that they weren’t violating anything, so they would support their work.

Is it correct to legalize the cars? I think that it is fine to legalize them. That is the way some people can only have a car, and if they are buying it by this way means that they really need it. Besides, they are paying and more employments are created, so the economy increases. I think that the problem the government sees is that they are not consuming product that is made in Mexico, or that they could buy other old cars from here. But for this, I think that people is free to buy the things they want in whatever place they want, for example most of us buy cloths in the USA. And the government shouldn’t interfere in that decision. They are obtaining what they need, from the source they are able to. We are living in a free-decision-making country right?

Can you give me a hug?

Last week I received a course of Hug Therapy in a camp. There a person explained that we need 10 hugs per day to get back all the energy back from the day you wasted. Also he explained us that there are 9 kind of hugs (with their variations), and each one meant something. We practice them, and at the end we felt really happy and relaxed, so a question came to my mind, do hugs really bring the energy of our day?

A hug is a form of expressing that you care for someone, that they can count on you, and a way of congratulating someone.

But why do we feel like this with a hug? I think that when the people really feel a hug, and they do it because they are pleased to, they exchange some energy. I mean, the real feeling is given, and because of this you forget the problems or stuff on your head. I think that this is why when you are sad you want someone who can show you are protected, and you want a hug. A hug makes you feel happy, and I think it can increase your self-steam and confidence.

I think that they are very important because, a person can’t live without love, and it is a gift everyone can give. ‘’ Therapeutic touch, recognized as an essential tool for healing, is now part of nurses' training in several large medical centers’’. So it can be considered as a medicine, or sometimes as prevention for depression.

A ghost town

There is a strike in Cananea due to the miners. Because of this many jobs had been loose and closed because people are migrating to other places because there are no more opportunities in that city. People have called Cananea a Ghost town.

I think that people shouldn’t migrate looking for job; I think they should work in other things. The mines are not the only source of work. The consequences because they are moving are affecting the whole city. There are no people that can buy at stores, so the demand is reducing, and in consequence the whole economy is lowering. I think that they must accept that the strike is not a good way to solve problems, and this is leading to the destruction of the town. They should stop following the leader Gomez Urrutia so they can obtain their jobs again.

Our home: Earth

Yesterday another natural disaster occurred in America! Chile suffered an earthquake of 8.8 in the Richter scale, and it had 90 replicas and one of them of 6.2 in the Richter scale. At the moment there had being registered 708 deaths.

We know that Chile is in seismic zone as Mexico City and humans can’t control when it occurs one. But maybe all of us are responsible for some of the natural disasters that had been occurring in the past years. I think this because we don’t care about Earth, and we are damaging it more every time. We are contaminating ocean, air, and land; we are overexploiting our resources; we are deforesting; we are not recycling. So the earth is reacting to all the changes we have made.

There have being ecological campaigns but they include just a small percentage of the human population. If every person could join them, we could avoid problems, and maybe reduce global warming. We should all get involved so we can have a better home called Earth!

Feeling superior by making others inferior

“No one can make you feel inferior”- Eleanor Roosevelt
This is a quote that every people should keep in mind. In the world there are people who discriminate or treat bad other people just because they feel superior, and want to have a benefit. Every day this acts or violence increase and it affects our society.

Over two weeks ago, I heard that some people transported drugs to the United States and they make other people (called “mulas”) eat capsules of drugs, and when they arrive make the people release them. I think that this act is really bad and inhuman. Nobody should take advantage of other people because they can hurt them. With this example, first they are doing something bad by making him or her eat it, because it affects the organism, then they are cheating the police, and then when they make the people release them, they also give other substance (which again affects the organism). If they want to transport it like this, why don’t they do it to themselves? Are they being so “generous” by letting other people have this taste? Obviously not! They don’t want to hurt themselves.

Another act that is very common, and now in every city or town or even at schools is presented is: stealing. Why do people do this? Sometimes they don’t need it, but they just do it to hurt others. My question is, do they increase their self-steam by doing this? Maybe they feel powerful... Still, I think that there is no excuse for this act. I think that everyone should respect themselves and obviously others, so you should treat them well. We are all humans, and all of us have feelings!

While driving

Last Tuesday it was the day for citizenship at school. Our group was in charge of telling the people about the “No Zone Phone” campaign, and the goal was that they commit to one of the three policies while they are driving (not use the cell phone at all, don’t message, or use free hands). I think that this campaign that started Oprah Winfrey is really important and will really have a great impact because there are many accidents due to the use of cell phones while driving, and people should be conscious of their acts.

In the lasts years driving has become a problem. There have been many accidents from young people because they drive with high speed, or they are drunk, or they are using cell phones. I think that the government should be really strict, first at giving the licenses: not because they drive well in a block that means that they are really good drivers so they should do other exams (as in other countries), also they must make the people respect the speed, and if they see a minor driving without license make the right procedure to pay a ticket, not giving them the money because with this the country doesn’t grow. I consider that if people pay the ticket they could be more conscious of their acts and they won’t do them again because of the consequences, or at least they would try not to do them so the police don’t charge them.

But not only we can put the responsibility in the police, the person who is driving must be conscious of what he or she is doing. They must be aware that in the worse of the cases, they can cause a death if they do something bad.

Our activities help in the future

We are in school which has a variety of activities, groups, or student societies you can join. Many adults support this, and say that you “grow” if you are part of them, but how? How can a sport make the world a better place? How can a group help the economy of the country? How can an art, dance class, or a leadership group help you in a future? How all of them are related with this class?

Since I entered Tec, the teachers, principal, or people that came to conferences told us that all the extracurricular activities helped us during our life. I decided to enter to different things just for fun, but after a semester of being at Tec I realized that what those people said was true. With all the activities you became more independent and more responsible. You start to organize better and try to help more people. Also you get more mature, you increase your confidence, and you become capable of managing bigger problems. Also, because you are most of the time busy, you start to love all the things you do, I mean you don’t do it just because you are part of it… you become a member of it! Consequently, you really appreciate your free time and enjoy it. You start to understand the phrase “Work hard, live harder”.

But here comes the question, how does all those characteristics developed help in the future? With the things I have mentioned, you can interact with more people, you care about the world, and you are aware of the problems that it faces. For instance, if you were part of a sports team you can get a scholarship for university, you can continue studying, and when you are now working you have already the habit of commitment and working as a team. Or if you were part of a leader group, when you are working you already have the skills of interacting with people, organizing, and also working as a team. I think that if every person could join to a group, society’s life will increase. They will work with more enthusiasm, they will not stay just as lazy people, and more of the world’s problem will be solved as: unemployment (scholarships help you to continue studying; you have the spirit of innovation, can create new jobs), crime, corruption (people could become aware of what politicians are doing, and they will react), etc. So, the economy of the country could grow if everyone does something and create new things, people will communicate more and the international relations will increase. So I think that the things you do in the present really matters in the future.

An ideal world?

Can you imagine a world without scarcity? Living a life with no preoccupations to find new resources! It sounds amazing right? Maybe it could be an ideal world. But… have you analyzed all aspects if this could occur?

Due to our class I wondered what it would be if we could have everything. I think people would get used to have all things without making an effort, they wouldn’t try to find or create new things, because what is the purpose of innovating if everything has the same value? Maybe I could sound a little negative by saying that we need to have scarcity to live life correctly, but I think that it is true. We must lack of things to succeed and get prepared to make a change.

I think that society’s behavior would change, because they wouldn’t want to work because they can already live with the things they get in life. So they wouldn’t continue studying to be better, and that affect education. Children wouldn’t go to schools because they will always be in the same social class and they can have a good life in the future. So I think that many jobs will disappear (teachers, scientist, engineers, etc). And also because everything has the same value and everywhere has infinite resources, money would disappear.

Water rationing?

An important problem that we have been facing in Hermosillo is the water rationing. Although our state has ocean we don’t have the technology to use saltwater, so water is scarce due to the lack of rain. The government to solve this problem has come with the idea of water rationing.

I think that this is a bad idea because the only moment when people don’t use water is in the night, and in some parts of the city they do this water rationing at night. Also, I think that this is a bad idea because people get prepared with water before they ration it, so they use the same amount of water. In the only case that I would be in favor with water rationing is when there are licks, and water is being misused. Besides, I don’t think thayt this is an alternative that could work. They should get new ideas, maybe they could get alliances with other states to give them water.

Can people ascend in social classes?

Poverty is a problem society has been facing during many years. The reasons of this are due to lack of education, people don’t get prepared, and people don’t care so they continue living the same way. After analyzing this I got the question, can people ascend in social classes? Some people say that if you are born in a poor family you are going to stay poor for your entire life because you will have to work since a very young age and you won’t study. But I think that people, if they want to, can ascend in social classes, can work in whatever profession they want and they can make themselves a better person.

I think that there won’t be any limits to him or her. They can take opportunities and if kids need to work they can balance their school hours with work. If education is the problem they can go to public schools or get a scholarship. I think that if everyones starts studying and having goals the economy of the country will increase. There are millions of things you can do to be better. So I think that that thought of being always poor is false. People can be whatever they want to!

Stop being selfish

Today was published in “El Imparcial” that a mother from Haiti reported that a group of American men took his child, as well as other children, to take care of them for a while. But they didn’t give him back. She made an accusation, and when they got the men, they answered that the children didn’t had any legal papers of their parents, and they were going to take them to an orphanage.

When I read this article I asked myself, where they really taking the children to an orphanage, or where they just taking advantage of the situation? I consider this really cruel, but due to how society in working many things crossed through my mind. In Haiti many people is just looking for help, and I think that they are not expecting for someone to make them suffer more. In the present, many people just want the best for them, and they don’t care for others; I think that every person that does this, he or she doesn’t has a high standard of morals (they don’t care of others). And to solve this and stop being selfish, we must think for a while and analyze that we are sharing one planet, we don’t have to fight for being better (yes you have to have goals and try to reach them but not in a bad way just for power or money), we must cooperate in all the things we do, and maybe with this all of us can improve our life.

We must stop being selfish in every activity we do, and help others.

Can we create just one culture?

As we have been taught, multiculturalism is how the government manages the cultural diversity in a society. In most of the countries, especially the ones more developed, people are immigrating searching for a better life, with a job, and high life expectations. This can become a problem because some of them go illegally, and the security cops can return them to their native country. But when they are legal, the government has two choices: let them conserve their traditions and culture (cultural mosaic) or make them adopt the new culture (melting pot).

I think that the better choice is to have a melting pot. I consider this because with the cultural mosaic people will be more separated, and the immigrant people won’t respect the traditions, values, emblems, etc. of the country they have arrived. Also because if they are moving to another country to “progress” they must adopt their ideas to be more successful; they can’t go anywhere and establish their own way of living because they are foreigners.

Also, I think that the government should take this decision so they don’t lose their identity and culture. Because if many people is arriving, the people from that place will decrease, and it is probable that they become extinct. If this happen, it can become a country formed with people all around the world, except from that community.

Technology is invading personal life

In the recent years technological advances have improved, and people are creating new devices. This can have many benefits in your life because it can help you to live better or to make a job easier. But if people create things “to keep track on you”, it can become annoying and unsecure. As in the reading from class “Big brother is watching: The technologies that keep track of you”, more cameras, chips for identification, or sensors are being placed in products.

I think that with this technologies the people’s life can be published anywhere, or the owners can know information about your personal life. For example, in the article said that the owners of a company could read or see how many mails you send. I consider this wrong, because people must respect the privacy, and it is not correct that just because they want to see the employers’ activities and have control of them, they do it. Also this is wrong because any person (bad people) can get the chips and stalk you, and make bad use of the information they gather. I think technology should only be used on the necessary things.
