Extortions lead Mexico to cut cellphones
Tens of millions of Mexicans could find their cellphones disconnected this weekend if the government goes ahead with a new law meant to fight crime by forcing people to register their identities. Advertisements on government radio and television have been urging Mexicans for weeks to register their cellphones by sending their personal details as a text message, but on Thursday 30 million lines remained unregistered as the Saturday deadline neared.
Analysts said that any related losses for Mexico's largest wireless operator, America Movil, would be tiny relative to the company's overall sales. Most of Mexico's 84 million mobile phones are prepaid handsets with a limited number of minutes of use that can be easily bought in stores. The phones can be topped up with more minutes through street corner vendors.
Imagine how many money could lose Telcel, Movistar, Lusacell, andm any other brands we don’t know. Also this will create a lot of disorder in the stores, people asking for service and attention to their situations.
America Movil has 71 percent of Mexico's wireless market, together with operations in Brazil, Chile and other countries in the region. Most of the rest of Mexico's cellphone market is in the hands of a company in Spain.
This week, senators refused requests from telephone companies to extend the deadline for a year, but discussions were ongoing and a last-minute vote could not be ruled out. The Reforma newspaper reported that a judge refused to give Telcel an injunction to stop the deadline.
I don’t think this is a good idea because anyway extortions will continue meanwhile cellphones keep in bad guys’ hands. It is true that many of these calls come from jail on those people would not be able to keep calling, but lets be realistic, we are in a country were corruption is everywhere, how much time will elapse from the cancellation of this cellphones systems to a man to take a phone to a guy in jail, how much for 20 cases of this type, how much for 100, faster than can we imagine.

Murders in Ciudad Juarez
Continued drug-related violence in the troubled Mexican border town of Juarez caused the Mexican government to make a change: replacing the army with a federal police force. It is very sad to read that in Ciudad Juarez, now officially recognized as the most insecure city in the world, the breaking news is that there were no people killed in 24 hours. At that point this city has arrived, to be happy because of one day the police did not have to lead with a bloody body.
Now Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico is sending more troops in order to keep controlling the insecurity in that city watching specific places and taking care of the citizens in order to wait the Federal police to retake their activities. Under the "Safe Corridors" program, the SSP will deploy 5,000 agents to patrol in the city's main streets, and carry out inspections in bars, billiards bars, schools and addiction treatment centers.
Turf wars between criminal gangs have caused 4,200 deaths in 2008 and 2009, and 500 so far this year.
Juarez Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz told several Mexican media outlets on Wednesday that the city would now have a "policing solution." But how many times we have heard this and the murders keep going?
The army had taken over for a local police force widely seen as corrupt. But the use of the Mexican army as the chief policing force in Juarez had riled critics, who said the influence of troops led to torture and extrajudicial killings, as well as human rights violations, now more often than before.
Insecurity is everywhere in Ciudad Juarez, the “sicarios” and the army had taken almost by complete the city, it is a live war that hundreds of thousands of people are experiencing day after day, like is they were at war also, the only big difference is that they are not in charge of combat the bad guys.

Even the FBI is in Paulette’s case
The March 22 disappearance of Paulette Gebara Farah drew great attention throughout Mexico, and officials said they assigned 30 investigators to the case. Web pages from friends of the family and others were posted on the Internet, asking for help finding her.
Everyone in the country know about this tragic case, even the people that is not following it very often day after day in the news, even those people knows about the case of the 4 year old girl Paulette.
A lot of stories have been told around many newspapers and television channels, a lot liars are in this tragic story that it seems that has no end, when a clue to find the suspect comes up, it is know something else that erase all possibilities of getting into the bottom of the case.
What impress me other day was that this case went too far that the FBI had to intervene, it seems that only an organization so big like this one could lead us to the real problem. Sources have said that FBI people is checking the department when this whole thing took place. Are they really the solution? What comes next? The CIA will come to try to find out what happen to the little girl, is it that in Mexico we don’t have enough sources to solve our problems? This tragic episode of Mexican life has made impact in many people not only of Mexico but from other countries, this story has been read worldwide. Unfortunately this are the kinds of news that people from other countries read about Mexico. Let’s pray for justice, because that is what we need, justice and that the really guilt people go where they belong, to jail.

Day to day..

Messenger, Facebook, myspace, twitter and a more websites and tools are used nowadays around the world. They say that internet can help us in a lot of things, such as in business and for education. But a lot of people use internet for other behaviors such as watching pornography, inappropriate blogging and also can lead to a shopping addiction. This is behaviors that only several people have, but a behavior that a lot of people are having is the internet addiction. They think that their life is the computer and the internet, having a computer without internet is like having a human without breathing. Now teens and even adults, have their life around the internet, if they don’t enter to the computer, messenger and Facebook, they say that they feel incomplete and anxious.
Yesterday I was with several of friends talking, and most of the time they were relating thing to things in Facebook, that’s when I decide to write a blog about the addiction to the internet. Facebook and other tools aren’t more an optional website is like a rule.

Ana & Mia
Ana and Mia are common names for calling anorexia and bulimia. Nowadays, teens try to look as the models on the magazines and on the TV. Several companies and advertisements have been made so the teenagers see that been very skinny and poor feeding doesn’t look good at all. Anorexia and Bulimia are two diseases that everyone in the world knows what are, just for fact, anorexia is the eating disorder in which you eat much rationed meals or you don’t eat at all, and bulimia is an eating disorder that consists in eating too much in a very short time and they evacuate by forced vomiting.
I found this issue very sad, I know that four of my friends which I know since I was in Junior High, have an eating disorder.
Eating disorders show that a lot of girls have a s
elf-esteem very low, which affects them on school, work; relations with other people and some of those issues have no turn back and in the worst cases this both disorders can led to dead.
On fortune, nowadays there are a lot of organizations that are dedicated to help teenagers and women that have this disorders, they are clinics in which they are intern and help them to have a better self-esteem.

A mature decision. A step to been an adult
e

One week ago I meet 2 girls from a little invasion here in Hermosillo. The name of one of the girls was Lucia and the other one Estefanía. Lucia has 15 years old and Estefanía is one year older than Lucia, and both are pregnant.
The problem of pregnancy in early young girls or teenager pregnancy is a very common issue all over the world. But I have never met someone that was going through that. A lot of the underage girls decide to abort the baby because they can take the responsibility of a person in their hands. Others decide to give the little baby on adoption and the ones that are a little more mature, decide to keep them and try to give them the best life that they can.
I talked to them and they old me that the baby that they were carrying out was for a bad decision that they took. But they said that they had no regrets because they were going to give birth to a precious person in the world.
Even though their parents aren’t helping them a lot with they pregnancy, both Lucia and Estefanía are helping each other. Lucia is working at an “abarrotes” near her house and Estefanía is working as a housecleaner on downtown.
In a way I feel sad for that girls, they wasted a lot of they fun times on they teenager but in the other hand I respect them and feel proud of them because they decide to keep the babies.

Mexico's legalization of drugs

The bill, proposed by conservative President Felipe Calderon, would make it legal to carry up to 5 grams (0.18 ounces) of marijuana, 500 milligrams (0.018 ounces) of cocaine and tiny quantities of other drugs such as heroin and methamphetamines.Mexico's Congress passed a similar proposal in 2006 but the bill was vetoed by Calderon's predecessor Vicente Fox, under pressure from the United States, which said it would increase drug abuse, but now is worried by the drug-related violence along its border.
Mexico has a lot of drug dealer’s problems, almost all the days there are at least 2 people killed because of this problem. This problem is since long time ago a very controversial subject on Mexico, but now the problems have been more and more intense. So now they are deciding to legalize them in a certain form that they are not very harmful for the people that consume them. I think that is a very good idea so the violence because of drugs stops.
Gay marriage
In recent years, the debate over same-sex marriage has grown from an issue that occasionally arose in a few states to a nationwide controversy. Indeed, in the last five years, the debate over gay marriage has been heard in the halls of the U.S. Congress, at the White House, in dozens of state legislatures and courtrooms, and in the rhetoric of election campaigns at both the
national and state levels. Moreover, the battle over whether gays and lesbians should be allowed to wed shows no signs of abating. In the last year alone, three states have banned same-sex marriage and four states have legalized the practice. As the debate rages on, the American religious community remains deeply divided over the issue.
Gay marrige, same sex relationships are a very debated and with a lot of arguments that now a days is very controversial. In a way, people say that they have the liberty to marry whomever they want and in the other hand is the religious and ethics that have separate the world in the ones who are liberal and the conservadors. I think that people are free from living whomever they want and marry also but just until the point that they do not demostrate it a lot on public.

Violence in Women

Violence affects the lives of millions of women worldwide, in all socio-economic and educational classes. It cuts across cultural and religious barriers, impeding the right of women to participate fully in society.
Violence against women takes a dismaying variety of forms, from domestic abuse and rape to child marriages and female circumcision. All are violations of the most fundamental human rights.
In a statement to the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in September 1995, the United Nations Secretary-General, Boutros Boutros-Ghali, said that violence against women is a universal problem that must be universally condemned. But he said that the problem continues to grow.
The Secretary-General noted that domestic violence alone is on the increase. Studies in 10 countries, he said, have found that between 17 per cent and 38 per cent of women have suffered physical assaults by a partner.
In the Platform for Action, the core document of the Beijing Conference, Governments declared that "violence against women constitutes a violation of basic human rights and is an obstacle to the achievement of the objectives of equality, development and peace".

Violence in women has affected in all the countries. I think that Mexico is one of the places where the violence in women has affected more, the women doesn’t know how to defend herself in situations where the men thinks that he has all the control over her and his children. Violence against women has originated that most of the men see the women as an object and not as a person as they are. Sometimes this violence has come to the point the men have even killed the women when they are fighting, but the violence is not only physical it also includes violence with words or more likely to say, emotional.
Obama's 2010 strategy taking shape
Obama is basically angling to call the bluff of Republicans who he believes have done nothing but stand in opposition to his proposals on revamping the U.S. healthcare system and stimulating the economy.
It is a strategy he is outlining in town-hall meetings and most recently at Democratic fund-raising events he held last week, as he seeks to regain his political footing after Democrats lost their 60-vote supermajority in the Senate.
The president Obama is now putting on practice his ideas about how he was going to take the country on progress. He is asking the other party so they can alliance their ideas so they can get better ideas about how to take the country forward.
Obama and his Democrats, struggling to bring down the country's 9.7 percent jobless rate and having seen their healthcare overhaul stalled, are eager to prove to Americans they can generate results ahead of the November elections.

Apple May Address iPhone File Frustrations
Apple May Address iPhone File Frustrations iPhone OS 3.2 -- running on the iPad -- accommodates third-party file-sharing as developers have sought.
Everybody grouses about the lack of multitasking for third-party
apps on the iPhone (and iPad). But another limitation of the current platform is at least as limiting: The data sandboxing files that hobbles third-party apps' ability to move files on and off the iPhone or share them with other applications.Today, there's both bad news and good news on this front. Bad news: Apple made e-book reader Stanza (owned by Amazon.com) remove a feature for transferring books via USB, on the grounds that it violated the iPhone developer agreement.Good news: Ars Technica is reporting that iPhone OS 3.2, the version on the iPad, has a shared-storage folder that's accessible to third-party apps -- including computer apps that can see the folder when the iPhone is attached via USB. If that shows up on the iPhone (which it presumably will) it'll go a significant way towards reducing the every-app-is-an-island feel that iPhone software tends to have.As long as I'm at it, another request: The iPhone/iPad e-mail clients should allow detaching of attachments into this shared folder, so that applications such as word processors and spreadsheets can get easy access to documents for editing. Maybe this is in iPhone OS 3.2 and I just don't know about it yet -- I'd assume that Apple would want it for the iPad versions of the iWork apps, and it would be a major bummer if Apple apps could get at attachments and other programs couldn't...
