Give Help; let's show empathy

Because I am young, I am not aware of everything that has happened in the world in the last 50 years, but lately, I have heard a lot of bad news; violence is present in daily situations, resources are scarce and natural disasters had caused the deaths of thousands of people.

The Tsunami in Asia (in 2004) caused 288,000 deaths; thousands of people are still missing, and millions of them lost their home.

The earthquake in Haiti caused a masive lost of everything; cities, families, schools, and all the things that were present in that zone.

Then, I heard about the earthquake in Chile and I was shocked; I realized that we don't have to wait 8, or 5 years to "expect" these kind of disasters; a lot of things can happen, and we can't avoid them.

We have been lucky, we were born in a place where non of these situation have been present, but that is not a reason to think that we won't ever suffer a thing like that and that is why we MUST find a way to help them because maybe someday we will need that help too.

We are one world, we are part of a whole and we have the responsilibity of support others when they need it.

Earth Strikes Again

During the month of February, one huge iceberg loose off Antarctica’s Coast. There was once big iceberg that separated from the rest of the ice land and joined another one that was already floating in the ocean. The collision of these two ice pieces created a loose iceberg the size of Luxembourg, around 97 kilometers long. The first iceberg separated from the ice land because of the warm water currents that had reach it since several years ago. Reading this shocking news made me realize that global warming is not near, it’s here.

I think Earth has tried to warn us throughout the past years about the catastrophes that could happen. Let’s just take a look about what happened with the Hurricane Katrina, the tsunami of 2004, and most recently what happened in Haiti and in Chile. I think mother Earth gave all the possible warnings that we should take this planet seriously.

All these natural disasters can affect our way of life in each and every sense. Scientists say that if this huge iceberg melts down, the sea level will rise and parts of the world that are barely above sea level may disappear. Also, he said that the iceberg melting will change sea currents and the amount of oxygen in the sea, affecting all types of marine species. This could affect the economy of many countries in which the sea provides a large part of their GDP. The supply of the product will decrease affecting the equilibrium.

I find very interesting what we saw at the last class about considering the effect on the environment in economics. If we had considered nature before, maybe today we wouldn’t be suffering all these natural disasters. The companies that take into account the effect of their actions on nature, are very responsible because they don’t only care about themselves and money but also about the world they are living in. We should all consider the effect on nature of all of our action. Think twice before throwing oil on water, or before throwing plastic bags into the garbage.

We humans can do better. We were given a powerful brain to do whatever is best for us. I hope we realize that we are only harming ourselves by not caring about the world. We should do everything we can do now. Maybe tomorrow will be too late to start caring about our seas, our land and our air. Who knows where mother earth will strike next.

Tsunami Warning

After the earthquake that occurred in Chile, on Sunday there were warnings of a tsunami in all the nations near the Pacific. The big earthquake provokes a tsunami that can goes until Japan!
President Barack Obama said that his government was prepared for the tsunami that can affect the coast, especially
Hawaii, American Samoa and Guam. He also said that they warn all the population to leave the coast zone; it is very important the people pay attention to the warnings and obey them.

Fortunately these warnings are over, because the waves observe are too weak to assume a threat to the normal life of the population.

The ocean level is increasing and decreasing constantly, but according to the specialist and their observations there is no risk for the people. We were near! The waves of a tsunami were close.

Have you ever think why all this disasters are happening? It is true the end of the world is coming?

First, it was the earthquake of Haiti, and then it was Chile, a tsunami alert for the Pacific. What would come next? I think that all of these happen because of global warming. People is not taking seriously what is happening, but we need to take care of the place were we live! The ocean is increasing; the poles are melting down. It’s time to make conscience of what is happening and what are the things that we need to make for this place. We live here on earth; taking care of it is an obligation to all of us, why we are not doing it? Are you going to wait until you really suffer a disaster? NO! Now it’s time, we need to take extreme measures NOW!

Another natural disaster; now Chile's turn

There has been around a month since the tragedy in Haiti that let hundreds of thousands of people without even a place to live. Now I noticed from an uncle that another big earthquake hit Chile, a 8.8 in the Ritcher's scale.

It is known that Chile is located in a seismic area, is a matter a fact, the biggest earthquake ever registered was in this same country in 1960 with a scale of 9.5 degrees!

It's obvious that the South American country is more prepared that Haiti economically and politically. Also, in this case we can say that the Chileans were "luckier" because the main hit was 300 kilometers from Santiago, the country's capital. In the case of the Haitians, their capital, Port Principe was almost completely destroyed.

But the important fact here is how most of people is handling this situation. All the world was shocked after watching Haiti's images, now, more than other time, aid from other countries and from the politicians will sure make the best to solve the hospitals saturation problems, among others.

Is definitely not the same to have a natural disaster like this one a month after one of the worst catastrophes in history.

We as humans cannot make anything to the mother nature, only be prepared when it is needed. We contributed to help Haiti, we definitely have to do the same to our brothers from Chile.

Maybe the biggest musical event in Latin America, Viña del Mar, was cancelled because of the earthquake, actually, I was watching this event yesterday, without a doubt, it's a shame that such event has to be canceled but there are more important things to worry about now.

Another Earthquake, now in Chile!

Disaster in Chile + New government entrance...

This morning the world wake up with terrible news, an earthquake in Chile. This was a sism of 8.8 degrees, the 6th worst in the history of humanity. There are aprroximately 122 deaths, and many damages.

It seems that the story of Haiti is repeating, in many senses, it is the same. Luckly, in this eartquake there are less deaths and damaged people, but this doesn't mean it was nothing. It is a terrible disaster and huge damage to the country in all manners.
The different and new thing is that, currently, Chile ellected his new president-who will take possession on MArch 11, I think. So many questions appear... Will Chile Government will be as the Haiti one, not capable to raise up? Will the inminent change of government and powers, led authorities and Chile to raise up and care with this tragedy? In these next days, we will see how both governments, the currrent and the new one, work; and if they are capable of managing this disaster and situation. Also the political and economical life of Chile, will be prooved. If they can work together for the good of the country, then they will be having a good political situation. Plus, they have to look and manage the economical situation of the country.

I hope that the citizens and the governments, join efforts in order to beat this tragedy! I also hope that the politicians really join and see for the good of people, without mattering any political or economic differences.

We should help them!
