Cat Spy

During the Cold War in a project called “acoustic kitten” the United States tried to use cats as spies to intercept conversations among the Russians. The Americans operated a cat so that they can put a small microphone and an antenna in the tail of the cat. This project had duration of 5 years to become true and had a cost of 20 million dollars!!! When they finally finished, a new problem come out, the cat get distracted looking for food. Then they made another operation to control the hunger of the cat. The first mission was to leave the cat near a building occupied by Russians’ spies. But the bad luck interrupted because the poor cat was killed by a taxi. The mission failed. The project was then abandoned.

It was very ingenious to use cats as spies; few people would think that cats were going to be used as spies. Many people would not even imagine they were being recorded in a simply cat. I think that if the cat would have not been killed maybe the Americans would have had advantage in the Cold War. Nowadays in the army it is important to have spies where the enemy would have not even imagined. I think that in the future with more technology there would be “spies” everywhere. The government will want to have recorded everything about us. There will be small cameras everywhere and the majority would not even notice where they are…….
